It's All Gravy is a new business started by Angela Howell. She makes bone broth pet gravy from scratch from human-grade ingredients but without any of the additives which may be harmful such as salt / sodium, onions or garlic. The bone broth gravy offers variety of taste and add extra nutrients for pets, saving pet owners from having to make additional food to supplement dry kibble. 

Beyonce, Captain Kirk & Miss Violet with their shiny bright coats and eyes, are evidence of a nutritious diet supplied and lovingly (and painstakingly!) handmade by their human Mum, Angela Howell.  They are her in-house pet trio team of two dogs and a cat acting as chief quality control samplers for business entrepreneur Angela and her start-up Dunedin business ‘It’s All Gravy’.  They are the reason she came up with the business idea in the first place, wanting fresh beef broths & gravies for her pets as she was concerned with the ultra-processed options on offer elsewhere, and was desperate to give them the best & freshest nutrition possible.

No one is mad enough to do it because it is so labour intensive she says, but she does all the messy stuff for pet owners as she cooks up small batches for 12hours in crockpots of either lamb or chicken bones, then when cooled, skims the fat off (the nutritional lamb fat is used as a binding agent in her pet treat biscuit range), she then hand picks the meat and marrow from the bones, a time consuming process.  Currently she sources meat bones from Princes St Butcher and Webbers Gourmet Chicken (keeping excess bones from going to landfill), nothing goes to waste. The products are one ingredient usually and are a highly dense, quality nutritional supplement to add to pet meals. The chicken gravy is finely blitzed including the good gut health collagen naturally occurring in the ingredients – and a little going a long way.  

Angela who is a fifth generation Dunedinite, has been listening to her local customers pet stories and has adapted her range to suit, giving away plenty of samples from her stall up on the platform over winter to be taste tested and approved by the cats & dogs of Dunedin.  She loves hearing these gorgeous stories about her customers pets and seeing the relief on some of their faces when fussy cats start enjoying food again, she is constantly surprised at the number of cats she is keeping alive right now!  She adds pumpkin from neighbouring vendor Caithness Farm to her pet biscuits which are also proving popular. Some of her range is in reuseable glass jars with a very high return rate at the Market.

Great news also, as these products are starting to get into selected retail and you will find her It’s All Gravy Market stall has grown each month to expand her simple range, with the display getting better by the month as she takes onboard customer feedback - always with a welcoming beaming smile and a friendly enquiry about your pet, even on the coldest of Saturday mornings!
