Coastal Kaps was established in 2018 with the objective of growing a premium quality mushroom sustainably.
Michelle Ellwood and Shane are passionate about growing mushrooms and providing the Market with the health benefits and eco-friendly protein that mushroom offer. They think of mushrooms as nature's original 'smart drug'. Mushrooms are jam-packed full of essential nutrients and antioxidants. Being high in Vitamin D and Iron, low in calories and help to improve immune function.
When running their business, Michele and Shane are focusing on three core components:
- The growing process, which has been developed as a closed loop production cycle, using a blend of straw and used coffee grounds for the growing medium.
- The disposal of any waste from growing the mushrooms, which is composed and donatewd to the local school for garden projects.
- Establishing a local business that meet the market needs but keeping sustainability.
