Ingredients

  • 500g pears peeled, cored and chopped
  • 500g tomatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 2 fresh red or green chillies, seeded and chopped
  • 125 ml cider vinegar
  • 100g soft brown sugar
  • 1 dessertspoon grated root ginger
  • ½ tsp mustard powder

Heirloom Tomato and Pear Relish

Method

  • In a heavy saucepan or casserole, combine all the ingredients and bring to the boil
  • Reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning
  • Ladle into hot sterilised jars and seal
