Seasonal Vendor Primary Produce
Garden to Market
Garden to Market farms regeneratively in locations across the city at Ocean View and in Outram. They grow vegetables without major tillage, the use of synthetic herbicides or fertilisers offering their customers the healthiest and freshest produce seasonally. Having worked with several local restaurants in recent years, Neil and his team are delighted to now be serving all of Dunedin through the Otago Farmers Market. Please look forward to a variety of seasonal vegetables and herbs appearing from week to week.
Garden to Market is a small-scale market garden grown in the rich Outram soils in the Taieri Plains and at the big backyard home garden at Ocean View overlooking the Pacific Ocean of Neil Robinson. He has been growing vegetables for the past few years after a previous career as design engineer at Fisher & Paykel in Dunedin, a fly-fishing guide, plus many years in the electronics industry in the UK. Neil’s interests have always been self-sufficiency, hunting, fishing, growing & hobbies that pay such as this full-time hobby business he loves! He takes a sustainable approach to growing naturally in the earth with no synthetic inputs and he is all about regenerative practices and a no till, no dig approach. Neil is big on getting soil healthy first.
Carrots & radishes have been best sellers at his Market stall and his bags of Robbo’s Roasties when in season, are a hint at his English heritage by using his nickname, these popular bagged up vegies are great for your roast dinners. Garden to Market wastage is absolutely zero and you will often see odd, shaped vegies which customers love as well. Neil also supplies many of Dunedin’s popular high-end restaurants & café establishments with fresh, seasonal produce as the mainstay of his business.
Neil loves to teach workshops and classes & sometimes holds open days at certain times of the year on his property as another revenue stream. He is passionate about growing and teaching others these skills and is always happy to talk about how he grows his produce to customers.
He loves meeting his many lovely regular & new customers (often with partner Annie helping him) who support local producers and finds it a pleasure to be at Otago Farmers Market every week of his season with all the fun & games of the Market! Look out for the cute and perfectly arranged stall beside La Crepe, and if you cannot find that, then just look for a friendly smiley man beside his giant spring onions!
